Blues News #1 (the week before the regular season)

By ANDREW ALLSMAN

ALHAMBRA, IL--  Blues fans have had to endure what seemed like a very long off-season (at least i thought so), and have been anxious to see what the team can bring to the table this year.  Yesterday was the last game of the pre-season and unfortunately the Blues fell to the Stars, but yesterday also was a very busy day for management, so lets get crackin'.

Brian Elliott Col @ Van, 16-Mar-2011 by Mafue

Elliot beats out Bishop for the backup goalie

The Blues decided Saturday afternoon that Bishop will start in Peoria this season.

"I was definitely shocked," said Bishop, ''I wasn't very happy with the decision, but you've got to respect the decision. They're obviously your bosses. They tell you what to do. You might not agree with it, but you've just got to take it and use it down in Peoria and play well and hopefully be up here soon."

Bishop had a reason to be upset, he has just as much reason to be on the squad as Elliot does, but in the end it came down to experience

"I felt they were very equal in training camp," Armstrong said. "I don't think either separated themselves. The decision was based basically on experience. We're going with the experienced guy.

I don't feel that the Blues made a bad decision, but it could've gone either way and in the end, they thought experience was something they needed.

Colaiacovo is "Ok"

Many fans were worried about the health of Colaiacovo after he left a game early last week, but the Blues say he is fine. Supposedly it was a chest injuries and the X-Rays came back negative so Colaiacovo should be fine.

Arnott expected to play home opener

After having eye surgery last week, Jason Arnott is expected to be ready for Saturday's game.  Arnott was skating today which is a good sign of his progress.

Cruising Perron by FrenchKheldar

Perron begins light skating

After missing the final 72 games of last season with a concussion, Perron is finally back to working out (lightly). The earliest Perron could be back is November, but I think fans can wait 1-2 more months after waiting for approx. 9 months to hear he's skating.

Crombeen out indefinitely

Crombeen suffered from a fractured shoulder in Saturdays game against the Dallas stars.  He is reported to be out indefinitely but no timetable has been set yet, but we should hear more on it early this week. This provides the Blues with the ability to keep 3 forwards instead of 2.

Grachev, Porter, and Reaves remain

After Saturday's loss to the Stars, the Blues quickly announced that Grachev, Porter, and Reaves would be remaining with the team.  Reaves was practically a lock, but Porter and Grachev were battling for the final spot. I personally would prefer to see Grachev play over Reaves and Porter, but that is yet to be decided.
