The Blues announced at Tuesday's practice that veteran forward Jamie Langenbrunner will be out at least four weeks with a broken foot.
The injury is believed to have occurred late in Sunday’s game against Chicago when Langenbrunner blocked an opponent’s shot.
Langenbrunner’s injury comes at a terrible time as the Blues are getting ready to take their game on the road for the majority of the remaining regular season games.
Jamie Langenbrunner has registered 4 goals and 17 assists in 57 games this year as a Blue Note. Langenbrunner has been a very versatile player lately as he has had to fill in for both Alexander Steen and Matt D’Agostini on the Blues’ top two lines.
With the injury to Langenbrunner, Chris Stewart will likely be back on the third line with Jason Arnott and Chris Porter. This is a great opportunity for Stewart to impress head coach Ken Hitchcock and prove he can produce consistently. Hopefully he proves he is ready to be placed back into a top line role. The Blues will really need Stewart to step it up, and if he can do so, then he may be given a more permanent spot as a top six forward.
The Blues may try to replace Langenbrunner via trade unless they feel either Alex Steen or Matt D’Agostini is close to returning. This injury will definitely have the Blues considering every trade offer they get, especially if it involves a forward.
Halak will make his return on Thursday (barring an Elliott shutout on Wednesday) against Nashville after missing last weekend’s games with the flu.
