ALHAMBRA, IL-- Fans have been looking forward to this day for a long time....The day we can say that we have a leader.

Since Eric Brewer was traded in February, the Blues have been without someone they could call "captain".

Many fans expected the Blues to name all Assistant captains, but that was not the case and I applaud the Blues in their choice.

When you think of teams like Nashville, Chicago, and Detroit you also think of the face of their organization, their leader who is a player that stands out from the pack and not only contributes points but also leads the team where they need to go.

Backes is the type of player that fans and apparently the organization thinks has those characteristics and Backes is without a doubt the person I would want as the face of my team.

After having a breakout season last year fans were quick to judge and the majority of them would say that David Backes was the face of the team last year, and I would agree.

After today we can put Backes into a group of former captains that include names like: Wayne Gretzky, Al Macinnis, and Brett Hull. What an honor it must be for Backes to be grouped with names like that.

Is this going to put more pressure on Backes in the upcoming season? Yes and I would hope so because that means hes doing his job, but if anyone is up for it, its Backes.

Assistant captains this year are: Barret Jackman, Alex Steen, Jamie Langenbrunner, and Andy McDonald
