NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman addressed the media today in Ottawa, and assured Blues fans that the sale of their team was on the right track.

The sale of the Blues has been ongoing since March of 2011 and fans, according to Gary Bettman have no reason to be worried.
"pretty optimistic, based on everything we're hearing from Tom, that this should be a go." said Bettman in his media address in Ottawa

While its not exactly the most reassuring thing considering one purchase agreement has already fallen through, it does seem like Stillman's group is passionate and will be able to get this deal done.

Stillman who is heading up a group to buy the Blues, reached a purchase agreement to buy the club a few weeks ago.

The group that Stillman has put together includes the Taylor family (Enterprise rent-a-car), John Danforth (former U.S. senator), and a few others according to the STL P-D.  The estimated price of the Blues is between $130-$135 million.

With the trade deadline coming up, fans are hoping to have the deal done by February 27th but it appears that mid-March would be a safer bet.

According to P-D writer Jeremy Rutherford, this deal could go into March before closing, but Rutherford also said in a Tweet that he has heard it could be done sooner.

The NHL is currently assisting the Blues financially (though the amount of assistance is unknown).

A timetable for the completion of the sale should become clear in the coming weeks.
